Climbers Fall From Mount Everest and Disappear Because Of Overcrowding
Years ago Mount Everest was considered a mountaineer’s mountain, where a climber need only worry most about avalanches, hidden crevasses and the potential to succumb to Altitude Mountain Sickness.
But now, something far more hazardous and life-threatening exists on the world’s highest peak. Mount Everest is quickly becoming an EXTREMELY dangerous mountain because of overcrowding.
In this video we'll learn just how Everest has become so dangerous in recent years, site some examples, then offer ways to make the mountain safer.

Would it be possible to implement a rule, or hat people needing to descend in an emergency are allowed the privilege to pass if time is of the essence, or would that be risking lives as well?

Probably died stuck in traffic. Like most that die on the mountain these days. Most of the guides are money hungry egomaniacs who take peoples money and put them at greater than necessary risk. Yeah yeah, everyone knows the dangers....the guides even more so. Yet they continue to profit while FAR TOO MANY try to summit every season.

I totally agree! I feel people are looking for a villain or hero in this story. Let’s just say there was a lot of bad choices and many good deeds made but in the end they were only human in a horrible situation. I do believe Scott and Rob put lives in danger and ended up paying for it with their lives.

I was watching your videos and can't help but ask why you would want a tv up there? I watched the HBO doc about Everest from 5 years ago and a Sherpa was dumbfounded about the stuff THEY have to carry up. Don't you feel bad or do you just view the Sherpas as the help.

As far as i can see, she is not responsible for a single death. Doug Hansen was so far behind that the delay in fixing the ropes did not affect him. Andy and Rob died because of Doug. Scott died because he had altitude sickness. Yasuko die cause she was exhausted. And you certainly can not blame her for the 3 deaths on the other side of the mountain. No one died because of her

It's totally understandable that the majority of human beings on the planet feel this way. All that said, an extreme counterpoint would be to consider that in the USA there are 45,000 automobile related deaths every year....which says that you have about the same chance of dying while driving a car as climbing Everest....and many of those people in cars are driving to a job they hate, stuck in traffic, daydreaming about going after their dreams.... It's every man for himself in the death zone. Several people tried to give him assistance by giving him oxygen and water, but he would not get up and walk. He was ill prepared, his body was not suited to climbing in such high altitudes, and he had frostbite on his fingers and toes from previous trips to Everest. If you cannot walk by yourself above 8000 m, then there is nothing anyone can do. And Sir Edmund Hilary was too judgemental by saying climbers refused to help Sharp. There are many accounts of people stopping to help him, but they were running low on oxygen themselves and staying with Sharp would have led to their own deaths.

Shame on Nepal and Tibet for exploiting the mountain to make money. What are they doing with the millions in permit fees they’re collecting? The blame for the state of the mountain starts with them for allowing climbing. If climbing wasn’t allowed or was more limited, there wouldn’t be so many expedition companies or climbers.

There is absolutely a fascination with risk takers. If people are dying, it has to be extreme right? That is a serious draw for thrill seekers. It is the thought of almost dying that gives some of these people a thrill like no other. Now it’s all about not dying, instead of the win of climbing the highest mountain in the world. I think there needs to be a cap on climbing but that wont happen. Climbing to Everest is a money maker for all of the Sherpa who summit. They are hurting to provide for their families so there is a major incentive to the pay that climbing brings. Its a crappy situation for everyone. Without those wanting to climb, an entire nation doesn’t make money. To climb in these conditions, you are asking to die.

From my limited viewing recently - both leaders Scott and Rob behaved poorly and ignored the basic rule of when to STOP AND GO DOWN. That is the single biggest problem. Anatoly was a hero in all respects. He was not putting smiley faces on everything and ignoring all precautions. One could argue that if you require oxygen, then you are not fit enough or acclimated enough to make the climb. He was prudent, whereas Scott and Rob were not. Anatoly saved people.
